Objects and Production aid

In the AviX analysis system all components are classed as value objects or fixation objects. The degree to which productivity is affected depends on the type of object that is handled. Value objects have a fundamental function in the final product. This means that the assembly of a value object is productive work. Fixation objects have no fundamental
function in the final product; they are simply used to hold together the value objects in the final product, so the assembly of fixation objects is not classed as productive work.

Value Objects (VO)

Value objects are bought or manufactured proprietary components that provide the final product with increased customer value. This means that when a value object is missing, the final product’s customer value will be reduced or non-existent.

Fixation Objects (FO)

A fixation object adds no further value to the product. The fixation object’s function is simply to hold the value objects in place. Examples of fixation objects include screws, nuts, adhesives etc.

Productions Aids

In order to create a final product, all constituent components (VO as well as FO) must be assembled on the final product. If this cannot be done entirely manually, then the operator must use production aids. Production aids are therefore required in the production process, but can never be classed as productive work in the analyses. Examples of production aids
include physical tools, fixtures, racks, trolleys, instructions and blueprints. 

A commonly occurring problem during object classification is how to classify production accessories such as packaging, provisional protection, corks, lids etc. The general rule of thumb is that time is allocated to those objects to which the accessories belong, and accessories can be classified as specific objects as needed.

Special Cases

Labels

A label must be classified as a value object if it follows the product out to the customer. In these cases, the placing of the label in its final position is an assembly process – green time.  Temporary labels used during production are classed as production aids and their placement is classified as placement – yellow time.

Grease and oil

Grease and oil are considered value objects if they add customer value to the product, otherwise they are considered production aids.

Glue

Glue is a fixation object if it has no other function than holding a value object in place.

Gaskets

A gasket is a value object when it serves a function, such as sealing, for example.

Varnish and paint

Varnish and paint are value objects.
