Local License Server
A local license server (software) is needed only if floating licenses are used. It is usually installed on an existing server which all clients have access to. If floating licenses are used only to a small degree, it can be installed on one of the client machines running AVIX4. In order to be able to issue licenses, the computer on which the license server is running must be working and synchronized with Solme’s license server. The latter is sometimes referred to as the “main server” in the following. The software consists of two parts
- Secureon License Server
Server software that manages floating licenses - License Server Manager
User interface application which is used to connect to and to administrate the Secureon License Server. The license manager software is normally installed on all computers from which users should to be able to administrate License Server. It can be installed on server.
MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Server computer
(newer OS than what is listed below probably work, but they haven’t been tested)
- Windows XP/Vista/7/10/2003/2008/2008 R2/2012/2016/(Linux*)
Virtual machines and both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems are ok.
Can be installed on a server with other server software. - Disk: Approx. 40 MB disk space
- Memory: 2GB ram, (approx. 512 MB ram needed for the license server process)
- Requirements for synchronization via direct internet connection
- Communication ports open for outgoing TCP traffic to licensing.solme.se
- 443
- 8080
- Requirements for synchronization via file
- A system operator with a valid email address capable of sending and receiving emails with file attachments
- Clients need to be able to communicate with the server with TCP traffic. Which port to use can be configured, but in the default installation the port used is:
- 443 (This port can’t be used by other services)
- Internally used ports (by the JBoss web server). These default ports can be reconfigured.
(These ports can’t be used by other services or there will be a port conflict.)
- 4444 (these are internal ports, so no need to open in the firewall)
- 4445
- 5001
- 8083
License Server Manager computer
(This software is not designed to be run on the server. So if it does not work under your windows server, run it from a client windows version.)
- Windows XP/Vista/7/10/2003/2008/2008 R2
- .Net Framework 1.1 or later
- Approx. 1 MB disk space
When synchronizing a local license server, the main server at Solme is contacted. Anonymous information about license usage is sent to the main server and license updates are sent to the local license server. A local license server must be synchronized in order to receive license data that then can be used by clients. In addition to that, a local server that is not synchronized at least once a year will lose the ability to issue licenses. The time limit in question can be seen in the user interface on a License Server Manager that is connected to the local server. This user interface allows manual synchronization both via file and via direct connection over internet. If it is possible to synchronize via direct connection, an automated weekly or daily synchronization can be setup.
