Resource Balance Basics
Here we show how easy It Is to balance process steps between workstations. For those of you with mixed model process flows, we also show how you can create different product specifications/configurations.
In AVIX we call this variants (variations), which simply mean that you can easily create multiple assembly sequences from the same data-set. Theoretically this means you can record a video of a complex product, separate the different process steps In AVIX and from this "master-sequence" create all the other models/configurations.
This is important, because it means you don’t have to video record and measure time for each an every model separately, and process steps that are the same for multiple products only needs one and the same process definition (process definition).
EXERCISE
Use the AVIX file Line_balance_exercise.avx4 and create two variants with the following configuration:
Both cars will always have: Dashboard, Front seats, Interior light, Rear seat, Steering wheel, Cable/engine wiring, Rear view mirror, Head lights, Turn lights, Rear lights, Front doors, Rear doors, Trunk door, no sunroof.
Model A: Fog lights, Extra lights, 1,4L engine, small stereo
Model B: Cruise control, 1,8L turbo engine, Big stereo, 4 speakers, subwoofer
To check your result, the total assembly time for Model A should be 130s and for Model B 144s.
Hint: Check the details or you might miss something , don’t rely on just selecting/de-selecting the options listed above
RESOURCE BALANCING USING MULTIPLE RESOURCES
Here we show how to utilize the Resource Balance module for Internal balancing between operators. Having multiple operators can easily make the process more complicated, especially since you need to pay attention to any dependencies between operators, they don’t necessarily work on their own and sometimes they need to wait for each other.
EXERCISE
Use the AVIX file Line_balance_excersice.avx4 and add some human resources to divide the process steps between operators. Remember to make sure that the work sequence will be possible to follow, maybe It Is necessary to add logic rules between the process steps.
RESOURCE BALANCING MAN-MACHINE
Here we show how the Resource Balance modules also can be used for Man-Machine analysis. Simply tilting the Balance chart In AVIX makes Is possible to view the chart as a Gantt-chart. The functionality Is the same as for multiple human resources, and logic rules can be added to show the relation between different process steps.
EXCERSICE
Create your own Gantt-chart just using your imagination. You don’t necessarily need a video, just think about the different process steps done by the operator and the machine cycles. Add the process steps in AVIX and assign a time, after that you set the logic rules/relations between them.
