Introduction

Creating the “MBOM”

A prerequisite for making a DFX analysis is to have an “MBOM” (Manufacturing Bill of Material) that we want to analyze with some kind of DFX approach (e.g. DFA2 part level).approach. A MBOM in AVIX is represented as a hierarchy of Components.

Short explanation of the concepts part and Item in AVIX.

In AVIX, a “part” represents the definition of a part or product. It has the following attributes: nameproduct numberlengthvolumeweightversion and type (Fastener or Value object).

A part in AVIX can typically be used, or instantiated, in different BOMs. This is essentially what the concept of “part” in AVIX addresses: A part, which comes in the shape of either a (sub)assembly or detail, describes the usage of a pre-defined part in a specific BOM. This means that a single Item can be used/instantiated in several different BOMs (or in different occurrences within the same BOM structure).

The part thus keeps a reference to its Item, but also adds the quantity attribute, which describes the number of consumed/required Item at that place within the BOM.
