Uninstall and Upgrade
Uninstall AVIX
AVIX4 can be uninstalled using either ”Add or remove programs” or via the program group in the start menu (normally ”Solme AB/AVIX 4”)
UPGRADING AVIX
Things to keep in mind when AVIX is upgraded.
- Do not overwrite an existing installation
Overwriting an existing installation with a new one may cause AVIX to malfunction. If an installer is used to upgrade AVIX it is recommended to uninstall the old version before installing a new one or to install the new version in a new folder. Multiple AVIX installations can coexist as long as they are installed in separate folders. They will also share any fixed license used on the computer. - License data will persist between installations
If you are using a fixed license the license will persist through either a reinstall in the same directory or an installation in a new directory. - File compatibility is only guaranteed from older to newer versions of AVIX
Files saved with an older version of AVIX should always work in a newer version of AVIX, but the opposite is not guaranteed. It may work in some cases, but more often it will not. This makes it risky to work in an environment where different AVIX-versions are used. If a new AVIX version is evaluated it is strongly recommended to use copies of live data files and not the actual live data files during the evaluation. If a companywide upgrade is decided everyone should upgrade at the same time. - Customizations may break after upgrading to a new AVIX version
When customizations are installed they may use components in the AVIX application that are no longer available or function differently in a newer version of the application compared to the version the customization was designed for.It is strongly recommended to verify if customizations that are currently in use work with a newer version of AVIX before the new AVIX version is rolled out on a company. - The last installed AVIX will own the file association (*.avx4)
This applies to AVIX installations performed via the installer (not via update site)If a user double click on an AVIX file the last installed AVIX will therefore be started and load the file. If any AVIX is uninstalled the file association is simply removed and even if other AVIX installations remain. This means that no AVIX will be started and load the file when an AVIX file is double clicked unless a manual file association is made. To remedy this create a new file association for “.avx4”-files and bind it to the AVIX4.exe you want to use to open those files.
